Whilst working on my sketchbook for the 'Melting Pot' project, i have just come across another beautiful illustration. This one is from Versace Atelier spring 2009 collection. I have to say this has been a superb year for Versace, I love how they have really out done themselves with their use of ruffles this year

Although it was a couple of weeks ago now that Kate Hudson wore the Versace Atelier dress to the nine premier, but i still find myself saying wow when i see a picture of her wearing the dress. I loved it back in October when i featured the dress in my 'sculpture' project and love it even more on Kate.
I can't say I'm really a fan of Kate Hudson, either on or off screen, although at premiers she always seems to make extra effort and look amazing.

What a barbie!!!

Since out project 'The melting pot' was an illustrating based project, i have recently got into looking at fashion illustrations in my spare time, and i found this really cool barbie one..take a look, I'd love to actually make and wear one of the dresses, not sure how much like barbie I'd look though!!!

Melting Pot

For out third project called - the Melting Pot, we have been asked to design a garment inspired by a looking at a culture, I have always been interested in Japan I especially want to go to Tokyo. I also feel that geishas are beautiful and have always been interested in the history behind them and what better oppurtunity than this to incorporate it into my project.

I love the film 'Memoirs of a geisha' its such a good film, beautifully shot and the girls costumes are unreal, if you haven't seen it take a look

Another side of Japanese fashion that fascinates me are Harajukus, I had never really heard much about them until Gwen Stefani started appearing everywhere with her crowd of them, so I thought again another great oppurtunity to learn about something new.

So i decided to create a garment combining geisha and harajuku,

find below the mood board i created for the 'Melting Pot' Project using photoshop, i have also created another one on a piece of foam board, however i am yet to take a photo of it, once i have i will post it on here, so keep checking.

Show Studio..fashion revolution

During my visit to Somerset house to watch the vogue shoot, i did actually take a look at the exhibition as well.
If you've never heard of Nick Knight or Show studios then watch the trailer video below;

The exhibition is brilliant and would highly recommend you getting down there before it finishes, Show studio demonstrates how the borders between, Fashion, art, film and music are all merging together i collaboration to create something new and extraordinary. The exhibition however focuses on the latest emergence between fashion and film - something that i am hugely interested, having studied film before moving onto my latest course (FDA Fashion).
The main idea about Show studios is to close the gap between designer and consumer, artist and viewer, musician and listener. Fashion film also gives us the opportunity to have an insight into what message designers are hoping to portray through their collections.

Alexander McQueen transforming a groom into a bride, this was one of my favourite things at the exhibition, Alexander Mcqueen is just so cool!! Watch and see!!!

That's so VOGUE!!!

I went to the Nick Knights, Show studios exhibition that's going on at Somerset house in London. I was lucky enough to go on the day that they were shooting Natalia Vodianova in a fairy tale inspired Vogue cover shoot.
It was AMAZING, she was so professional, and got to wear the most beautiful outfits, the shoot took place over two days, I was there watching for about 4 hours, of which Natalia only changed once.
Below are some photos from the shoot, take a look;
We were behind a one way pane of glass, so we could see her but she couldn't see us, and we weren't allowed to use flash photography, so apologies for the quality of the photographs.

Throughout the shoot they were constantly editing the photographs on photoshop, it was amazing to see just how quickly they were able to edit and transform the images - it has inspired me to learn more about photoshop and how to use it properly. It just shows, how important skills on photoshop are within the fashion industry

Here they have posterised the photograph, I think it looks really good.

Outfit number two!!

I love how they've put her hair into a mohikan, I couldn't and still can't believe that this is the same model from the Alice in Wonderland Vogue shoot that a blogged about previously.
It was amazing to see just how much time and work goes into creating one photograph and Natalia had a different pose and position for each frame taken.

Stylists at work!!

The set was really simple, it was just Natalia and the white tree thingy.

I can't wait for this issue of Vogue to come out, it will be very exciting to be able to say i watched the cover being created.

Gaga for Gaga!!

She's everywhere at the moment and whether you love her or hate her, whether she's a man or a woman, there is no denying that she is undeniably cool. I love the way she just doesn't care what anyone else thinks and by doing that she has set trends all around the world.

I have to admit yes I have a pair of Topshop's sequin high waisted knickers, do i think if it wasn't for Lady Gaga i would have bought them or they would even be in the shops NO!!!

Gaga's 'Just dance' video just came on the TV, I've not seen it for ages now, as she seems to release a new single and video every other week, but it did remind me of just how cool she is and how much of an effect she seems to have had on the fashion industry.

Has a music artist had quite such an impact on the fashion world since Grace Jones or Madonna?? I can't think of anyone..let me know if you can.
Check out her 'Just dance' with Colby O'Donis below

Another video of hers which i also think is brilliant but quite understated is her 'Beautiful, Dirty, Rich' video check that one out as well.

Posts in the Past

I would just like to apologise for the fact that some of my posts have been created out of date.
I have only just got into blogging and so am still getting to grips with it so i apologise for the post being a little out of date.

Sorry - I hope this cute little dog makes up for it!!

From my sculptural mood board I developed my idea to design and create a garment,
My idea was to create a sculptural leotard with strong shoulders..very on trend, and then using the Guggenheim and a photograph taken from the doberman studio,

http://www.dobermanstudio.ru/portfolio/fashion/space

I wanted to create a cage skirt, much like the victorian crinoline cage skirts, however instead of using wood, crinoline or metal using paper, due to the whole garment being created out of paper.
Below you can see photographs of my first attempt at the garment - I had never created a garment using paper before so it was a case of playing around with the paper at first in order to see what i could achieve. Look below.

I'm happy with how the shoulders turned out, they are very symettrical and have strong clean lines, If you look below the bottom half didn't turn out quite as well

The paper wasn't stiff enough in order to gain the cage effect that i had in mind, so instead the result is more like the Herve Lerger bandage dresses, which is not quite what i had in mind, after research and realising where i had gone wrong, i think in order to get the desired effect i would have to incorporate wire into the main skirt.

I intend to go back to this garment and re-make it in my spare time, keep checking back, as i will post pictures of the final garment.

Ever since creating my first mood board using Photo shop - which can be seen in previous posts. I seem to have become obsessed with making them, I find it so much fun, its also a very productive way of time wasting.
The mood board above was for out Sculptural project, as you can see, The Guggenheim museum in New York was one of my inspirations, along with origami. I really wanted to incorporate origami into my garment, inspired mainly by Chanel's 07 Spring/Summer cat walk show. However I originally struggled to create the perfect result. Another huge inspiration, as can be seen on the mood board was Versace Atelier. I am completely and utterly in love with the Blue dress in the centre of the mood board.

I have just heard that Louboutin is releasing a special edition cat burglar barbie...amazing!! Check out the pictures below, you get some Louboutin shoes so that you can change Barbie's shoes depending on her mood. The shoes even come in their own little dust bags and shoe boxes.

She comes with a collection of 4 red-soled Louboutins, each with their own shoe box and bag.

As you can see Barbie is dressed in avery on trend black latex catsuit..very Lady Gaga and Differa sandles. It's a little bit sexier than what we normally see Barbie in, maybe because this isn't aimed at little girls, but instead for us grown up fashionistas, who are still very much children at heart. Is it me though or does Barbie seem to be a little more bootylicious than normal, maybe it's just me, either way I'm loving it.

Is it me though or does Barbie seem to be a little more bootylicious than normal, maybe it's just me, either way I'm loving it.
I'm also loving the fact that she is now a red-head opposed to her normal Paris Hilton blonde!!

If it wasn't for the price tag of £100 this would be definatley be on my christmas list..a bit pricey, seen as i remember buying Barbie with my pocket money as a little girl..maybe the credit crunch has even hit Barbie.
